James Gortner

Born in Orange County, CA, painter James Gortner attended Hawaii Pacific University and received his MFA from Columbia University. His mixed-media creations feature assemblages of found art, which he collects from thrift stores, the internet, friend’s donations, and the street. He then paints over the collage, sometimes asking other artists to intervene in the process. 

Gortner’s work has been featured at the Pool Gallery (Berlin) and Lyons Wier Gallery (New York) and belongs to the private collection of President Jiang Zemin of China and actress Reese Witherspoon, among others.
