Ben F Jones
Born in New Jersey in 1941, Jones earned a BFA from William Paterson University, an MA from New York University, and an MFA from Pratt Institute. Since the 1970s, he’s made over fifty cultural exchange visits to Cuba and has been recognized by Granma International as one of the most important African‑American artists of his generation. Over four decades, his vibrant multimedia installations—often featuring rhythmic colors, abstract motifs, symmetrical compositions, and symbolism drawn from African art and the African diaspora—have been shaped by extensive travel and research across Africa, Europe, South America, the Caribbean, and the U.S.
His early practice was steeped in political consciousness, exploring African-American heritage, spiritual ritual, jazz and soul, and Black Power/Arts, later expanding to encompass deep environmental concerns and the survival of all life.
